About The Position

The Welder performs fusion welding on aircraft and ground support equipment according to Welding Procedures Specifications (WPS). This role involves reading and understanding engineering drawings, fabricating parts, and welding a variety of materials. The Welder is responsible for determining welding sequences to minimize warping, designing and fabricating weld holding fixtures, and performing pre-heat and post-weld stress relief operations. The position may also involve inspecting welds, training other welders, and maintaining weld records. The incumbent must be able to produce flight-critical welds.

Requirements

  • At least two years of Welding-related experience required.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols.
  • Knowledge of materials to select correct filler materials and shielding gas.
  • Ability to determine welding sequence to prevent or reduce warp.
  • Ability to design and fabricate weld holding fixtures.
  • Ability to perform pre-heat and post weld stress relief operations.
  • Ability to maintain weld records.
  • Ability to produce flight critical welds.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or Military school preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs fusion welding on aircraft and ground support equipment to a qualified Welding Procedures Specification (WPS).
  • Performs structural fusion welding on parts and components per the requirements of specifications as prescribed by Engineering Drawings and Work Orders.
  • Reads and understands engineering drawings and welding symbols, fabricates manufacture-welded parts from engineering drawing without direct supervision.
  • Performs fusion welding and torch brazing for ground support equipment, ensuring the procedure is completed per the requirements of the national welding and brazing codes and specifications.
  • Welds a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, magnesium, alloyed and low alloy steel, stainless steel and nickel alloy steels.
  • Determines the correct filler materials and shielding gas when generating the Weld Procedure Specification (WPS).
  • Produces flight critical welds.
  • Determines the sequence of welding in order to prevent or reduce the amount of warp to the weld.
  • Designs and fabricates weld holding fixtures as necessary to perform individual welding projects.
  • Performs pre-heat and post weld stress relief operations.
  • Maintains weld records.
  • May perform duties as a Qualified Weld Inspector by inspecting own welds and those of less qualified welders.
  • May perform duties such as training and re-certification in the various welding processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
