About The Position

Ohmstede Ltd is seeking a Welder to fabricate shell-and-tube heat exchangers and their components using SMAW, GTAW, SAW, and FCAW processes. The role involves combo welding exchanger components and completed units, fabricating shells and bundles, assembling and fabricating shells, and welding tubes to tubesheets. Welders must follow the applicable welding procedure specifications (WPS), perform personal quality checks, correct non-conforming welds, and maintain a clean and safe work area. The position requires following environmental, health, and safety requirements, including PPE and safe working practices, as well as shop quality-control and consumable-traceability practices. Other duties and welding methods may be assigned by supervision.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent experience sufficient to provide product knowledge and familiarity with welding procedures.
Ability to read and write English to understand weld procedures, fabrication drawings, and requirements.
Proficiency in at least two of the four welding disciplines: SMAW, GTAW, SAW, and FCAW.
Ability to pass an ASME welding test.

Heat exchanger job shop or field fabrication experience.

Responsibilities

Perform combo welding of components and complete exchanger units.
Fabricate shell and bundle components.
Perform shell assembly and fabrication.
Weld tubes to tubesheets.
Follow the assigned WPS parameters for each job, including amperage, preheat and interpass temperatures, consumable size, and travel speed.
Perform assigned tasks safely and follow EHS requirements for PPE and safe working practices.
Inspect welds for required type and size and for defects such as undercut or buckshot.
Grind and/or clean welds as necessary to meet standards.
Correct non-conforming welds as necessary.
Follow weld shop quality-control requirements and consumable traceability practices for each job or work order.
Keep the work area clean, safe, and orderly using a broom and other cleaning equipment.
Perform other duties and welding methods as assigned by supervision.
