About The Position

QAI laboratories is a testing, inspection and certification organization providing services to manufacturers of Electrical Products, Building Products, Vehicles, Factory Built Structures and other regulated products. Recognition of the QAI name and logo have grown significantly over the past few years resulting in significant expansion of the business. We are looking for a Sr. Welder / Technician to join our Building Products team in Medley, FL. Our ideal candidate is someone who is good with their hands, can handle power tools, is reliable and/or has had prior experience in the construction industry.

Requirements

  • Microsoft Office (Excel and Word required, other programs an asset)
  • Safe working practice with tools associated with construction or similar role in a construction setting
  • 3+ years of experience using a variety of welding equipment, machinery and procedures.
  • 3+ years of experience in using electrical or manual tools
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Good knowledge of and adherence with safety standards
  • Attention to detail
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Team player
  • Good time-management skills
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • Forklift operator, counterbalance and high reach
  • Scissor lift operator
  • Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.
  • Able to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.
  • Able to perform simple testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.
  • Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge.
  • Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.
  • Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints/drawings and plan layouts and procedures
  • Take and read measurements
  • Always follow specifications and instructions for maximum efficiency
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or machinery to be used
  • Set up components for welding
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
  • Repair machinery or report damages on machines and equipment
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  • Work under strict timelines
  • Able to lead a small team
  • Building of test fixtures and assemblies
  • Dismantling test chambers and uninstalling products
  • Execution of provided work instructions
  • Assisting Senior technicians as assigned
  • Clean up, organization of inventory
  • Written and verbal reports to clients and management
  • Someone willing/able/interested in learning and growing from within the organization
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee
