About The Position

The Welder/Mechanic/Machinist primarily maintains Marion walking draglines and assists with repairs to mobile equipment and coal processing facilities. The role includes welding on mine equipment, including coal haulers and track-type earthmovers, and repairing and overhauling heavy open and enclosed dragline gear systems. The position requires work at heights, including on elevated dragline boom points and tri-structures, and may involve multiple shifts and 24-hour call-outs. Work takes place in varying environmental conditions, with exposure to dust, noise, and adverse weather.

Requirements

• Dragline mechanical repair experience or equivalent.
• Pass an established weld test.
• Strong mechanical knowledge to perform heavy dragline gearbox repairs and overhauls, and knowledge of general dragline maintenance practices.
• Demonstrate strong awareness and understanding of work-related safety practices.
• Be physically capable of working at heights above 50 feet, lifting 50 pounds or more, working in confined areas, and working in awkward positions involving prolonged bending or kneeling.
• Possess a valid and unrestricted driver’s license throughout employment.
• Meet all insurability requirements specified by Westmoreland’s policies or the driver’s insurance provider.

Nice To Haves

• Machinist or millwright experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot lubrication systems.
• Licensed mobile crane experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Marion walking draglines.
• Assist with repairs to mobile equipment and coal processing facilities.
• Perform welding duties on mine equipment, including coal haulers and track-type earthmovers.
• Repair and overhaul heavy open and enclosed gear systems on draglines.
• Work at heights, including on elevated dragline boom points and tri-structures.
• Respond to call-outs on a 24-hour basis and work multiple shifts.
