About The Position

Sierra Lobo is seeking a Mechanic Welder for the Technical Services Department at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility. The role involves welding and fabrication work supporting buildings, equipment, site installations, components, and vehicles. The mechanic welder applies technical knowledge to solve problems that cannot be resolved solely by consulting manufacturers’ manuals and provides quality, timely support in a team environment.

Requirements

• At least seven years of applicable welding experience or training.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license, which must be maintained.
• Pass a physical examination according to the White Sands Test Facility requirements for the job classification.
• Meet applicable certification requirements specified in the White Sands Training Database (WSTD).
• Advanced knowledge of fabrication equipment and alloys, and technical knowledge and skills in welding and fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Use technical knowledge to solve problems that cannot be resolved solely by referring to manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents.
• Use fabrication equipment, including benders, shears, metal workers, grinders, and hand tools.
• Apply knowledge of alloys and prepare materials for welding.
• Perform welding and fabrication, including GTAW, SMAW, and GMAW welding; oxygen-acetylene and plasma cutting; fitting; and layout.
• Prepare materials, select procedures, and set up and operate welding equipment for fabrication, modification, installation, and repair of buildings, equipment, site installations, components, and vehicles.
• Work effectively with others to provide quality and timely welding support in a team environment.
• Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work area.
• Perform additional related duties as required.
