About The Position

ColonialWebb is seeking helpers to join its Fabrication Team. In this role, you will assist with the layout and fabrication of piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems, following specifications and codes. The position is based in ColonialWebb’s fabrication shop at 2820 Ackley Avenue, Richmond, VA 23228. Scheduled hours are 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

• Knowledge of pipefitting or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including unscheduled overtime at night and on weekends.
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Knowledge of basic construction or shop math, including addition, subtraction, division, fractions, and multiplication.
• Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands.
• Positive attitude and willingness to work in a team environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradespeople.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist with selecting pipe types and sizes and related materials according to the product being fabricated.
• Assist with cutting pipe using pipe cutters, a port-a-band saw, a hammer and chisel, a cutting torch, and a pipe-cutting machine.
• Assist with threading pipe using a pipe-threading machine.
• Assist with joining piping using welded, grooved, threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
• Operate the shop forklift to lift or transport equipment, materials, and supplies as necessary.
• Load and unload shop materials from trucks and into buildings.
• Furnish experienced craft workers with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of mechanics’ tools and equipment.
• Clean the work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
• Work safely, encourage others to do so, and comply with applicable health and safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
