About The Position

McWane Plant and Industrial in Calera Alabama is seeking an experienced Welder Fitter to join our Job Shop Fabrication and Machining operation. The Welder Fitter will analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.

Requirements

Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum two (2) years' experience as a welder or welder/fitter.
Ability to read engineering drawings.
Knowledge of mechanical assemblies and testing.
Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.
Must be able to meet and adhere physical requirements as well as adhere to wearing the appropriate PPE (steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and mask).
Will be required to work in the following conditions: heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
Must be able to work in dust and fumes.
Must have the ability to operate forklift or overhead crane.
Will be required to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.

Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area as well as maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles.
Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery bases, sluice gates, and vessels, using knowledge of welding techniques and details from blueprints.
Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler etc.
Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
Cuts workpiece using plasma, gas arc, powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
