About The Position

This is a 1st shift position focused on performing Weld Tear-Down (WTD) inspections for weld and assembly processes at defined intervals. The role involves documenting inspection results, communicating test statuses to production teams, and initiating nonconforming product reaction activities when defects are found. Additionally, the position requires initiating preventive actions to address trends that could compromise product quality, processes, or quality systems. Responsibilities also include LECO analysis, preparing sample boards, and providing data for WTD/LECO charts. Specific tasks involve performing weld tear-down requirements using appropriate tools, evaluating welds for thickness and fracture degree, conducting weld nut push-out tests to verify strength, and determining weld acceptance criteria. The role also requires strict adherence to documentation and process control procedures, including those for destructive testing, rejected material containment, product identification, visual SPC, and customer-specific requirements.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with tools such as Plasma cutter, vice, pliers, torque wrench, push-out tester, thread gages, calipers, micrometers.
  • Ability to evaluate welds per required frequency to verify thickness and degree of fracture.
  • Ability to perform weld nut push out to determine > specified minimum strength.
  • Ability to determine welds / nugget acceptance criteria per part inspection check sheet requirement.
  • Ability to document all results on the applicable work order inspection check sheet and SPC data entry.
  • Awareness, working knowledge and compliance to procedures, work instructions, controlled postings and other job-specific information including: Push-Out Destructive Testing Work Instruction, Rejected Material & Product Containment Work Instructions, Product Identification & Traceability Work Instructions, Visual SPC Operation Work Instruction, Weld Tear-Down Process Flow Chart / Weld Tear-Down Tool Box Training, Beyond Minimum Customer Requirements Controlled Posting (Ford Customer Specifics).

Responsibilities

  • Performs all required Weld Tear-Down inspections for weld & assembly at defined intervals.
  • Documents all results on the inspection check sheet and SPC data entry where required.
  • Communicates with production area managers, team leaders and production team members of Weld Tear-Down inspection test status results.
  • Initiates nonconforming product reaction activities when product is found to be defective.
  • Initiates preventive actions to prevent potential nonconformity from data results indicating any trend which may compromise the quality of product, process, and/or quality systems.
  • Performs other essential functions related to WTD as assigned, inclusive of: LECO, the preparation of sample boards, and providing data for WTD / LECO charts.
  • Perform all required weld tear-down requirements utilizing appropriate tools.
  • Perform the evaluation of welds per required frequency to verify thickness and degree of fracture.
  • Perform weld nut push out to determine > specified minimum strength.
  • Determine welds / nugget acceptance criteria per part inspection check sheet requirement.
  • Document all results on the applicable work order inspection check sheet and SPC data entry where required.
  • Awareness, working knowledge and compliance to specified procedures, work instructions, controlled postings and other job-specific information.
