About The Position

The position of Weld Inspector will be responsible for assisting with the daily inspection operations of the Welding Department. This also includes performing visual, mechanical, and operational inspections of weldments and structures within the department. Ensure the welding department is compliant with applicable specifications, standards and requirements, while also supporting welding audits.

Requirements

  • Must be familiar with MIG, TIG, stick, or other welding processes.
  • Must be knowledgeable of AWS D1.1 standard.
  • Familiar with fabrication skills to include complicated layouts, shrinkage calculations, check & straighten capability, and should be able to direct a project.
  • Knowledge in use of hand tools (drill motors, grinders, basic measurement Instruments, etc.)
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 15 to 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity of welding aluminum, stainless steel, and steel.
  • Familiarity or ability to understand various welding codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (Blueprint reading).
  • Hold knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner.
  • Willingness to work overtime and night shift activities may be required.
  • Able to use Microsoft applications and ability to learn new computer programs/applications.
  • Ability to operate industrial lifting devices specific to overheads cranes and forklifts.
  • Ability to work independently or on a team.
  • Dependable/ punctual, willingness to take initiative without continuous input from Supervision.
  • Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, or rain.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Proof loading experience is preferred.
  • Laser Tracker (Leica) experience with Verisurf validation software is a plus.
  • Level II Certification of Magnetic Particle & Liquid Penetrant Inspection.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn aerospace coatings and application.
  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Aerospace Tooling or Fabrication with relevant experience in Aerospace and Mechanical field of work in performance of technical job function.
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Interpret complicated aerospace and defense engineering and specifications.
  • Lead and streamline visual, mechanical, and operational inspection requirements of all Welding and Tooling components; including but not limited to fabricated parts, weldments, machined parts, and assemblies.
  • Use various metrology tools to measure and compare actual features on components to the part requirements.
  • Work closely with the Welding Supervisor and Tooling/GSE Manager to ensure the manufacturing process is streamlined and to make sure that all tooling components are being inspected and moved forward in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Welding Supervisor and Tooling/ GSE Manager in conjunction with the Quality Assurance team to ensure requirements are being met.
  • Build/incorporate quality assurance into the manufacturing process.
  • Coordinate short-range production schedule with scheduling.
  • Use various types of benching equipment, machine tools, precision measurement tools, and various hand tools.
  • Lay and fabricate metal weldments and assemblies.
  • Be familiar with brake forming, welding and other structural processes.
  • Perform rework assignments as required.
  • Position parts and subassemblies by using templates or reading measurements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
