About The Position

Be the first friendly face our members see! We're looking for a Welcome Desk Associate in Lancaster City to create a positive, welcoming environment. This casual, part-time role offers approximately 5 hours per week, with shifts during weekday evenings (5:00–8:30 PM) and weekends (6:45 AM–12:00 PM). POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Welcome Desk Associate at the YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certification
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Six months experience in a service-oriented or sales environment required
  • Skills in problem solving, relationship building and communications
  • Ability to work calmly under all conditions
  • Use independent initiative and thinking
  • Work well in a team setting
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
  • Adult and Pediatric CPR, first aid and AED Complete
  • Listen First training within one year of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish ability is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate information to members and potential members via phone or in person.
  • Ensure members and potential members are put in contact with the correct person/department for information.
  • Promote YMCA programs and services effectively.
  • Help resolve problems and concerns for potential members, members, and staff in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ensure anyone entering the building is scanned in with their Y Key Fob or checked in, verifying their identity.
  • Accurately process memberships, program participant information, and revenue in the computer system.
  • Sell memberships and services.
  • Follow up with individuals who did not join via phone, mail, or e-mail.
  • Responsible for accurate daily shift closing and following shift change procedures.
  • Ensure security of the building by monitoring and following opening/closing procedures for the Member Service Desk and main building.
  • Record and handle merchandise sales.
  • Assist with scheduling wellness evaluation and orientation appointments.
  • Conduct tours of the YMCA for new and prospective members.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the Member Service Desk area at all times, including disinfecting commonly used areas.
  • Be knowledgeable in emergency procedures for fire or injury.
  • Provide AED to medical emergency events within the YMCA building and assist with calling 911.
  • Participate in orientation and staff development trainings as required.
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned, including bulk mailings, membership promotions, and open houses.
