About The Position

These positions are responsible to the Camp Director to assist in providing and maintaining an efficient, safe and meaningful Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Camp Programming. The roles involve supporting various program areas such as Waterfront (Lakes and Pool), Nature, Arts and Crafts, Archery, Hiking, and Night Program. Additional duties may include kitchen support and camp upkeep. Staff are expected to cooperate in planning and programming, understand and support campers, and ensure the health and safety of all. Record keeping, equipment maintenance, and taking a leadership role in program areas and camper units are also key responsibilities. The goal is to foster camp and unit cohesiveness and guide activities through girl planning and the GSLE Program. Specific to the Kitchen Camp Staff role, responsibilities include assisting the Kitchen Supervisor with all aspects of kitchen operations, from food preparation and serving to cleaning and dishwashing, while adhering to health and safety standards. Maintaining customer service and reporting any issues promptly are also crucial.

Requirements

  • Willing to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and accept the relevance and compelling benefits of Girl Scouting.
  • Accepts and adheres to the purpose and principles of the Girl Scout Movement.
  • Supports all GSOC policies and procedures.
  • Is 18 years of age or older.
  • Current and valid First Aid and CPR Certification (for Weekend Program Camp Staff).
  • Holds current and valid certification for Food Handlers in Riverside County, Serv Safe (for Weekend Kitchen Camp Staff).
  • Have an enjoyment and appreciation for the outdoors.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to keep supervisor informed and aware of activities/problems with campers.
  • Ability to share living quarters with other staff in the out-of-doors, which may include rustic cabins or dormitory cabins.
  • Experience working in food service (in a camp setting preferred) (for Weekend Kitchen Camp Staff).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing and maintaining an efficient, safe, and meaningful Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Camp Programming.
  • Support program areas including Waterfront, Nature, Arts and Crafts, Archery, Hiking, and Night Program.
  • Provide kitchen support and assist with camp upkeep (camp kapers).
  • Cooperate and participate in planning and programming of activities.
  • Understand and support campers, helping them respect others' rights and appreciate differences.
  • Ensure the health and safety of campers and staff.
  • Submit required records, reports, and inventories.
  • Help maintain equipment.
  • Carry out delegated duties and take a positive leadership role in program areas and camper units.
  • Provide and maintain camp and unit cohesiveness.
  • Guide activities and experiences through girl planning and the GSLE Program.
  • Assist in all areas of kitchen operations including food supply, preparation, serving, cooking, cleaning, and dishwashing (for Kitchen Staff).
  • Adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service (for Kitchen Staff).
  • Take time off in accordance with GSOC and Camp Scherman policy as indicated by supervisor (for Kitchen Staff).
