About The Position

The City of Birmingham is seeking a Webmaster to build and maintain the city’s websites. The role uses content creation tools to develop digital media such as webpages, applications, and programs; identifies departmental information technology and processing needs; administers departmental IT systems; provides user support to resolve issues; and conducts training to help employees use IT systems effectively. The position designs, builds, and maintains websites, applications, or programs; selects appropriate programming languages and design tools; administers systems and applications; prepares documentation and user guides; analyzes user needs and technical requirements; conducts training; and answers software or hardware questions. Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting using standard office equipment. The job is primarily sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, and light lifting.

Requirements

Work experience creating, scripting, and/or modifying computer programs and applications using programming languages such as HTML, T-SQL, VB, C++, Java, Python, or XML.
Work experience creating websites in a medium- to large-enterprise setting.
Work experience providing systems administration support for websites, including establishing user permissions, troubleshooting system issues, and maintaining data integrity.
Work experience with project management in full life-cycle development, including stakeholder meetings, requirements analysis, and resource assessments.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain websites, applications, or programs using authoring or scripting languages, content creation tools, management tools, and/or digital media.
Select relevant programming languages, design tools, and applications for the applications or tasks involved.
Administer systems or applications by providing user support, installing updates, and managing user access rights.
Create, update, or modify system documentation and user guides by reviewing reference materials, testing functionality, and assessing user needs.
Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements and define the scope and context of application development.
Conduct training to explain work processes and support compliance with procedures and standards.
Answer user inquiries about computer software or hardware, providing guidance, troubleshooting, and resolving problems.
