About The Position

The Web Designer is responsible for designing, refining, and maintaining user-centered digital experiences across Fresno Pacific University's websites. This position blends UX/UI design, accessibility, information architecture, Drupal site-building, front-end presentation, and web content quality assurance. The Web Designer works closely with the Director of Web Services, the Web Analytics & SEO Specialist, the University Communications and Marketing team, campus departments, and other stakeholders to ensure university websites are accessible, consistent, engaging, and aligned with institutional marketing goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in web design, UX/UI, digital media, marketing, communications, computer science, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in web design, UX/UI, web content, front-end production, CMS site-building, or a related digital role.
  • Experience using Figma or equivalent design/prototyping software.
  • Working knowledge of Drupal or a comparable content management system.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Understanding of responsive design, accessibility, user-centered design, information architecture, and web usability principles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, faculty, staff, students, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete work that is comprehensive, accurate, and aligned with university standards.
  • Ability to think creatively, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple projects at once.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a higher education or mission-driven environment.
  • Experience with Drupal Views, Drupal Webform, Twig, Sass/SCSS, Parcel, and front-end theming workflows.
  • Experience with Microsoft Clarity, Acquia Web Governance, Google Lighthouse, Google DevTools, and accessibility evaluation tools.
  • Experience with Git, Drush, front-end build tools, and approved AI-supported design or development workflows.
  • Familiarity with SEO content structure, metadata, internal linking, and how design decisions affect search performance.
  • Familiarity with Canvas, Opensense, and Liquid templating.

Responsibilities

  • Design and refine web layouts, page templates, components, webforms, landing pages, and user flows for Fresno Pacific University websites.
  • Use Figma and Figma MCP-enabled workflows to support web design, prototyping, documentation, design-system thinking, and design-to-build collaboration.
  • Apply information architecture principles to improve navigation, page hierarchy, content organization, content relationships, and website usability.
  • Use Microsoft Clarity, heatmaps, Google Lighthouse, Google DevTools, Acquia Web Governance, and accessibility tools to identify UX, accessibility, performance, and content-quality issues.
  • Translate user behavior insights, data recommendations, and content needs into improved page structure, calls to action, visual hierarchy, accessibility, and user flow.
  • Build and configure Drupal site structures related to design and information architecture, including content layouts, Drupal Views, Webform, landing pages, menus, and content presentation patterns.
  • Support Drupal front-end theming and presentation work using Twig, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Sass/SCSS, Parcel, and Drupal theming conventions.
  • Ensure web experiences meet accessibility/disability requirements, brand standards, cross-browser and device compatibility expectations, and web content quality standards.
  • Create, refine, and maintain Drupal webform designs and implementations in collaboration with campus stakeholders.
  • Support Canvas-related web, design, and accessibility work where it overlaps with the university web experience.
  • Support Opensense and Liquid templating work where design, communication, and web experience overlap.
  • Use Git, Drush CLI, Claude Code CLI, and approved development workflows as appropriate for front-end and Drupal site-building work.
  • Collaborate with the Web Analytics & SEO Specialist to apply SEO, content performance, and user behavior insights to web design and information architecture decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Web Services on design implementation, front-end standards, Drupal quality assurance, performance, accessibility, and platform constraints.
  • Keep current on UX/UI design, accessibility, Drupal site-building, front-end standards, web governance, and AI-enabled design workflows.
