The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Water Supply seeks to hire a Watershed Maintainers within the Drinking Water Operations (DWO) South Directorate, for a position located in Valhalla, New York. The Drinking Water Operations Directorate is responsible for the operation, maintenance, treatment and quality of three water supply systems and all associated infrastructure that conveys water to New York City. These systems include the Croton, Catskill, and Delaware Systems. The Directorate also operates and maintains seven Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRF’s), including five collection systems, that protect the headwaters of these systems. The directorate provides maintenance and operation of the Croton Water Filtration Plant, Jerome Park and Hillview Reservoirs, the Cat-Del UV Plant, Chlorination and Fluoridation at Delaware Aqueduct Shaft 18, Chlorine Dioxide at Croton Lake Gate House and the Ashokan Chemical Treatment Facility, Pleasantville Alum Plant, and other associated dams, aqueducts, shafts, waterworks, highways, support systems, and offices. The Watershed Maintainer will be responsible for performing duties related to the operation, maintenance, repair and inspection of facilities, equipment and lands in the watershed areas and reservoir, aqueduct, and related systems of the City of New York water supply system. Under the supervision of the Supervisor (Watershed Maintenance) I, the Watershed Maintainer, working out of the Field Force Maintenance Unit will perform duties related to the operation, maintenance and inspection of equipment, water treatment facilities, watershed areas, reservoirs and aqueduct systems of the City of New York Water Supply.
