Join the Department of Transportation as a Tunnel Maintainer and help keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely. Requirements

• Two years of experience in roadway maintenance and repair, emergency services, towing and roadside assistance, or traffic control work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
• Demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
• Possess an active Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed, or equivalent on their first day of employment.
• Obtain within the probationary period an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders.
• Positions in this job require additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
• Able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning, repair, and upkeep of tunnel structures and surrounding grounds
• Assist motorists and first responders, remove debris, and restore safe traffic conditions
• Observe tunnel conditions, traffic flow, and safety indicators to identify issues
• Deploy cones, signs, and barriers to set up safe work zones
• Operate trucks, washing equipment, towing apparatus, and flood gates safely
