About The Position

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City. The Bureau of Water Supply (BWS) seeks to hire a Watershed Maintainer for the Personnel Services unit, Core Services Directorate located in Kingston, New York. The Watershed Maintainer, under supervision of Kingston Facility Manager will perform duties related to grounds keeping, maintenance & repair, and inspection of the entire Kingston Facility located at 71 Smith Avenue and 91 Smith Avenue Kingston, New York.

Requirements

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • One year of full-time satisfactory experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in the controlling or purification of water at facilities in watershed areas, reservoirs, or aqueduct systems, or performing duties involving the upkeep, inspection, maintenance or operation of watershed areas and related facilities.
  • OR Two years of full-time satisfactory experience as: a mechanic, journeyman or helper in the electrical trades or mechanical trades; or a technician in a chemical processing facility or chemical laboratory.
  • A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

Responsibilities

  • Emptying trash, vacuuming, mopping, wiping down tables, cleaning rest rooms, replenishing paper supplies in kitchens and restrooms.
  • Snow removal and sanding, salting of sidewalks, around vehicles and paths.
  • Mowing, raking of leaves and trimming hedges and tree limbs. Plantings, reseeding, and fertilizing. Picking up garbage and debris.
  • Replacing light bulbs, painting, and patching of walls, repairing faucet, toilet leaks, drain and trap cleaning and cleaning of condensation traps.
  • Hanging pictures, repairing wood furniture, installing shelving.
  • Utilizing power equipment as required.
  • Performing periodic maintenance of mechanical equipment including greasing of fittings, replacing belts, changing filters and flushing out draining down systems.
  • Monitoring and recording of equipment status, functioning, as directed.
  • Assists the Stationary Engineer (Electric) and vendors in the maintenance and repair of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems of the facility.
  • Setting up tearing down of training Rooms, restocking of supplies, inspecting fire extinguishers, accepting, and distribution of deliveries.
  • Performing an inventory of maintenance and janitorial supplies, vehicle transport, delivery of bulk mail to post office, delivery of bulk refuse to the dump, etc.
