The Lead O&M Tech is responsible for leading a team of workers who operate, maintain, and repair water and wastewater infrastructure. This position requires a thorough knowledge of water and wastewater systems and the ability to oversee the work of a team. The Lead O&M Tech will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater maintenance and repair
  • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater systems and components
  • Experience leading a team of workers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues.
  • Applicants will possess proficiency with computers, including an ability to work with SCADA, Microsoft Word, Excel and maintenance management programs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Applicant must be able to understand and follow compliance standards.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a DOT background check, DOT pre-placement physical and DOT drug screen before employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Water and wastewater certifications for Forida (such as a minimum Class DSI or Class C certification) are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of workers in operations and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure, including but not limited to mains, lift stations, booster stations.
  • Oversee customer service to residents and businesses, including responding to inquiries and complaints, and providing information about water and wastewater services.
  • Schedule and prioritize work orders and ensure that work is completed on time.
  • Flushes hydrants, maintenance, exercises valves, and perform pressure tests of fire hydrants.
  • Service backflows (if the license is obtained).
  • Oversee meter reading and meter read edit request.
  • Installs and changes out water and reuse meters.
  • Ensure team completes daily required operational site inspections.
  • Train and mentor crew members in proper maintenance and repair techniques
  • Develop preventative maintenance schedules and assure compliance with the schedule and record keeping.
  • Develops estimates for the repairs and maintenance.
  • Coordinates projects with other departments and divisions as necessary.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and equipment needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
  • Aid the plant operator with operations and maintenance of treatment facilities as needed.
  • Servicing the Vacuum station (a collection system that relies on vacuum suction to transport sewage from homes within the neighborhood) is different from the typical gravity/force main sewer system.
  • Operates various heavy and light equipment including backhoes, crane truck, vac trucks, etc.
  • Respond to emergencies and troubleshooting issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Cover for the manager during their absence, including managing staff, assigning tasks, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by management.
