About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Water/Wastewater Engineer to join their Resilience Water Team in Mobile, Alabama. This role offers a flexible hybrid work culture and is an opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to lead design efforts, mentor junior engineers, and execute projects. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience and relationships to help grow the water practice in the Gulf region. The Water/Wastewater Engineer will be a critical member of the Resilience Water Team, leading and managing project delivery within the municipal Water/Wastewater market. This professional position offers significant growth opportunities for advancement as you support delivery teams and build strong client relationships. You will be part of a dynamic team of engineers, leading wastewater treatment process and mechanical design projects and helping clients develop sustainable and equitable solutions to water industry challenges.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in water/wastewater design including experience leading design projects and managing multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural or a related field, is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Alabama or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong, clear, and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent technical writing abilities.
  • Experience managing the preparation, review, and approval of project drawings, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, permit applications, RFIs, as-built drawings, and other relevant design and construction documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Primary focus on the water/wastewater municipal market.
  • Design, permitting, and construction experience with water and wastewater process mechanical systems, as well as distribution, conveyance, and pumping and storage facilities in the Gulf.
  • Excellent technical engineering and task management skills are crucial.
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering, or a related field, is preferred.
  • Active participation in regional or national professional associations is highly desirable.
  • Strong client relationship skills are a plus, as well as a proven track record of successfully delivering various engineering projects that meet client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, technical knowledge and experience to further develop our design team capabilities.
  • Lead project tasks, in collaboration with project managers and clients, in the planning, design, permitting and construction of wastewater and/or reclaimed water facilities including but not limited to treatment facilities and conveyance systems.
  • Create and/or oversee the preparation of construction documents (drawings and specifications) and permit applications.
  • Support construction oversight/administration for both new construction and for rehabilitation work.
  • Lead preparation of detailed engineering calculations and analysis and utilize design software, as needed, to solve complex issues.
  • Manage and lead condition assessment evaluations for water/wastewater system assets including treatment facilities, pipelines and pump/lift stations using a variety of approaches and technologies.
  • Develop and meet scope, delivery schedules and project budgets for each assignment.
  • Work directly with project managers and area managers to determine needs and provide solutions.
  • Participate, as needed, in the preparation of winning proposals and successful presentations.
  • Strengthen client relationships through professionalism and technical expertise in all client meetings.
  • Supervise and support the work of others and mentor junior level engineer and design/drafting technical staff.
  • Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality and safety standards.
  • Some travel may be required to conduct project meetings, site visits, client meetings, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities, depending on project needs.
