About The Position

This is a part-time, year-round position responsible for teaching swim lessons and supporting aquatics programming at the Monarch Recreation Center. The role involves delivering instruction across a wide range of programs, including group lessons, private instruction, school-year programming, and special events. Instruction may take place in various aquatic environments, such as indoor and outdoor pools and specialized water features. A flexible schedule is required to support programming during evenings, weekends, and throughout the school year.

Requirements

Must be at least 15 years of age and currently enrolled in high school or have completed high school/GED.
Experience working with children or teaching in a group setting.
Candidates must be comfortable in the water and demonstrate the ability to swim proficiently.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification or ability to obtain prior to program start.
CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
Knowledge of swimming instruction methods and aquatic safety standards.
Knowledge of program delivery in a recreation center environment.
Skill in teaching, coaching, and engaging participants.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to manage multiple classes and participant groups.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants and families.
Ability to adapt to changing program needs and facility conditions.
Ability to maintain safety and awareness in a dynamic aquatic environment.

Responsibilities

Instruct swim lessons and water safety classes across a variety of programs and schedules.
Develop and implement daily lesson plans that align with established program standards.
Instruct participants in proper swimming techniques, water safety skills, and aquatic confidence.
Monitor participant progress and provide feedback to improve performance.
Adapt instruction methods to meet varying skill levels and learning styles.
Ensure safe use of aquatic facilities, equipment, and program areas.
Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff regarding progress and program expectations.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and required reports.
Discuss students' progress with parents.
Assist with setup, organization, and breakdown of instructional areas and equipment.
Support aquatics programs, events, and activities as needed.
Clean program areas after completion of activities and at the end of the workday.
Attend scheduled in-service training.
Coordinate with aquatics staff to ensure consistent program delivery and safety standards.
Verbally communicate with patrons, the public, and staff effectively.
Demonstrate cooperative behavior with the team, supervisor, and the public.
Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established safety protocols.
Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
