About The Position

The YMCA Outreach Aquatic Coordinator will assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Outreach Water Safety department, specifically working with lifeguards and swim instructors to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and high-quality experience for all participants. This role includes supervising staff, managing schedules, assisting in programs, assist in maintaining program reports and ensuring the safety of participants. The Aquatic Coordinator will work closely with the Senior Aquatics Director to support aquatic programs growth and maintain compliance with YMCA standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of aquatic supervisory experience preferred.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification (YMCA or Red Cross).
  • Current CPR, First Aid, And AED certification.
  • Current Oxygen Management certification.
  • Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or YMCA Swim Instructor (YSL) certification.
  • YSL Trainer and Y Lifeguard Trainer certifications obtained within one year of hire date.
  • Must complete successful criminal background check and drug screen.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all adaptive swim lesson programming for children and adults with physical, developmental, cognitive, and sensory disabilities.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise adaptive swim instructors and volunteers.
  • Monitor program quality through regular observations and instructor feedback.
  • Ensure all adaptive programs comply with YMCA safety standards and risk management procedures.
  • Maintain accurate participant records, progress reports, attendance, and program documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding participant progress and program recommendations.
  • Assist with private adaptive swim lesson scheduling and instructor assignments.
  • Assistant coordinate community outreach swim lesson programs with schools, nonprofits, municipalities, and community organizations.
  • Assistant partnerships with organizations such as insurance-funded swim programs, drowning prevention initiatives, and grant-funded programs.
  • Serve as a contact for outreach participants and partner agencies.
  • Coordinate participant enrollment, scheduling, and program logistics.
  • Track outreach participation, attendance, outcomes, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with grant documentation and data collection for community programs.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training adaptive swim instructors and outreach lifeguards.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Ensure instructors and lifeguards maintain required certifications.
  • Assist with instructor scheduling and substitute coverage when needed.
  • Prepare seasonal schedules and instructor assignments.
  • Monitor program enrollment and recommend additional classes based on demand.
  • Maintain inventory of adaptive equipment and recommend purchases as needed.
  • Assist with budget tracking for adaptive and outreach programs.
  • Ensure all required participant forms and waivers are completed.
  • Represent the YMCA at community events promoting water safety and adaptive programming.
  • Promote adaptive and outreach programs through community presentations and marketing efforts.
  • Support fundraising events and special aquatic events.
  • Provide exceptional service to participants, families, and community partners.
  • Respond promptly to questions and concerns.
  • Resolve participant issues professionally and efficiently.
