About The Position

KCB is a multidisciplinary engineering, geoscience, and environmental consulting firm with teams across North America, South America, Australasia, and Europe. The firm focuses on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. This Intermediate Hydrotechnical Engineer role is part of the Mining Environmental Group, based out of the Fredericton office, offering a hybrid work schedule. The position involves working on mine site-wide water balance and water quality models, designing hydrotechnical components of tailings storage facilities, incorporating climate change resiliency in hydrotechnical design, contributing to risk assessments and Dam Safety Reviews, engaging with clients on field programs and design solutions, working with various software, and being part of diverse teams from conceptual design through to construction. The role also includes receiving ongoing guidance and mentorship and traveling to project sites within Canada and internationally.

Requirements

  • A degree in civil engineering, with a track record of continued development
  • At least five years’ civil design experience related to surface water controls for mining projects
  • You must be eligible to register as professional engineer in Canada
  • Experience in channel design, flood mapping, water conveyance and drainage
  • An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams
  • Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements

Responsibilities

  • Work on mine site wide water balance and water quality models (with the opportunity to use GoldSim)
  • Design hydrotechnical components of tailings storage facilities for global mining projects
  • Incorporate climate change resiliency in hydrotechnical design
  • Contribute to risk assessments, Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs) and risk-informed decision making
  • Engage with clients, colleagues and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions
  • Work with the latest versions of software, including GoldSim, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Flow-2D/3D
  • Be a part of diverse teams of multi-discipline engineers and designers from conceptual design through to construction.
