About The Position

Barr is seeking a water resources engineer to join our Denver team. In this hybrid role, you will undertake challenging work on projects related to hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, civil engineering, and related technical activities. Assignments may include stormwater planning and hydrologic runoff analysis, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, open channel and pipe flow design, and water control and stormwater treatment structure design. Field assignments may include construction observation, surveying, collecting hydrologic or water-quality measurements, and materials testing. Responsibilities may also involve completing plans and specifications, working with permitting agencies and public officials, GIS and CADD work, report writing, and spreadsheet development. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments. A successful person in this role will demonstrate strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite applications, strong written and oral presentation skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a part of a project team, and a flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related engineering degree with an emphasis on water resources.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, open channel and pipe flow, lake and stream water-quality issues, and earthwork and grading plans.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software, CADD, or GIS software.
  • Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related degree with an emphasis on water resources.
  • Project design experience (e.g., stormwater management facility design, site and roadway design), including preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Exposure to GIS, CADD, or other relevant programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support a wide range of water resources engineering activities, including water quality data collection, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and design support for stormwater, open channel and pipe flow, and conveyance systems.
  • Prepare plans and technical specifications.
  • Contribute to project report writing.
  • Participate in site visits and inspections to observe construction activities and best ensure compliance with design intent.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers while developing your skillset in a professional consulting environment.
