About The Position

This position provides leadership and participates in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of an assigned City water treatment plant and related equipment. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. The work is considered heavy in nature and involves significant physical activity.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Five (5) years of relevant prior experience
Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License
Must possess a valid South Carolina Class “A” Driver’s License within one (1) year from date of hire.
Must possess an “A” Water Treatment License, or be able to obtain an “A” Water Treatment License within 2 years from the date of hire
Knowledge of basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas and volumes, and/or computing discounts and interest rates
Ability to gather, organize, analyze, examine or evaluate data or information and may prescribe action based on such data or information
Ability to provide information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants
Ability to perform coordinating work involving guidelines and rules, with constant problem-solving
Ability to read technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form
Ability to perform clerical, manual or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure
Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers, customers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of personal computer equipment with skill in the use of Microsoft Office preferred, utilizing e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet software programs
Ability to lead, operate or repair complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience, such as water meters; may involve installation and testing. Involves operations of limited scope.

Responsibilities

Inspects, maintains and repairs equipment and systems associated with the assigned City water treatment plant.
Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical and electronic plant equipment as scheduled; maintains related records.
Inspects, troubleshoots and repairs equipment.
Assists with construction and installation projects as assigned.
Performs general building and grounds maintenance and repair work as required.
Assists in maintaining parts and supply inventory.
Prepares and maintains accurate work records.
Provides instruction and leadership of assigned crew members; reviews work for completeness and accuracy.
Provides direct support to the Water Plant Maintenance Supervisor and serves in his/her absence as team leader for the maintenance group.
Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from customers and the general public regarding areas of responsibility.
Attends meetings, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
