About The Position

This position provides leadership and participates in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of an assigned City water treatment plant and related equipment. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. The work is considered heavy in nature and involves significant physical activity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of relevant prior experience
  • Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina Class “A” Driver’s License within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Must possess an “A” Water Treatment License, or be able to obtain an “A” Water Treatment License within 2 years from the date of hire
  • Knowledge of basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas and volumes, and/or computing discounts and interest rates
  • Ability to gather, organize, analyze, examine or evaluate data or information and may prescribe action based on such data or information
  • Ability to provide information, guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants
  • Ability to perform coordinating work involving guidelines and rules, with constant problem-solving
  • Ability to read technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form
  • Ability to perform clerical, manual or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure
  • Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co-workers, customers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of personal computer equipment with skill in the use of Microsoft Office preferred, utilizing e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet software programs
  • Ability to lead, operate or repair complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience, such as water meters; may involve installation and testing. Involves operations of limited scope.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, maintains and repairs equipment and systems associated with the assigned City water treatment plant.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical and electronic plant equipment as scheduled; maintains related records.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots and repairs equipment.
  • Assists with construction and installation projects as assigned.
  • Performs general building and grounds maintenance and repair work as required.
  • Assists in maintaining parts and supply inventory.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate work records.
  • Provides instruction and leadership of assigned crew members; reviews work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provides direct support to the Water Plant Maintenance Supervisor and serves in his/her absence as team leader for the maintenance group.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from customers and the general public regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Attends meetings, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
