Internal Only - Water Distribution Supervisor
About The Position
The Water Distribution Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating of the daily maintenance activities of the distribution system with a hands-on approach. This role requires a full understanding of water distribution system operation and maintenance practices, including pipeline disinfection, system flushing, and valve and fire hydrant maintenance. The supervisor will perform operation and maintenance activities, such as installation, modification, connection, and repair of the water distribution system, and will be responsible for isolating system malfunctions and taking corrective actions. Additionally, the role involves maintaining inventory, ordering necessary materials, preparing daily logs, and being available for emergency response, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position requires operating various equipment, interpreting technical drawings, and maintaining positive working relationships. This is a full-time position within the DPW – Water Division, AFSCME Local 1700, Grade 12.
Requirements
- Massachusetts Grade 3 (D3) Distribution license
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license
- Hoisting license - minimum 2B
- CDL – Class B with airbrake endorsement
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years supervisory experience in a municipal water system

Responsibilities
- Planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating daily maintenance activities of the distribution system with a hands-on approach.
- Performing operation and maintenance activities, including installation, modification, connection, and repair of the water distribution system.
- Isolating system malfunctions and taking corrective actions.
- Maintaining inventory and ordering materials required to support the distribution system operation and activities.
- Preparing daily logs.
- Being available for emergency response, including potential work on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Operating trucks, backhoe, air compressor, pumps, and related equipment.
- Interpreting piping, distribution diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Maintaining good working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

- Pay range: $81,732.04 to $109,858.32 per year
