About The Position

The Water Distribution Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating of the daily maintenance activities of the distribution system with a hands-on approach. This role requires a full understanding of water distribution system operation and maintenance practices, including pipeline disinfection, system flushing, and valve/fire hydrant maintenance. The supervisor will perform operation and maintenance activities, including installation, modification, connection, and repair of the water distribution system, as well as isolate and correct system malfunctions. Responsibilities also include maintaining inventory, ordering materials, preparing daily logs, and being available for emergency response. The role may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays, and operating various equipment such as trucks, backhoes, air compressors, and pumps. The supervisor must be able to interpret piping, distribution diagrams, and engineering drawings, and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and the public. Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Massachusetts Grade 3 (D3) Distribution license needed.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license.
  • Hoisting license - minimum 2B.
  • CDL – Class B with airbrake endorsement.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience in a municipal water system required.

Nice To Haves

  • Backflow and survey license preferred.

Responsibilities
