About The Position

ENWIN Utilities Ltd. is seeking to fill vacant positions for Journeyperson or Apprentice Water Distribution Operator. The role reports to the Supervisor, Water Distribution and is responsible for maintaining and operating the water distribution system in accordance with Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and ENWIN requirements. This includes performing preventative maintenance and emergency repairs, planning traffic management, inspecting contractor work, troubleshooting customer complaints, commissioning new infrastructure, water sampling, hot tapping, leak detection, diagnosing network problems, and completing documentation. The position involves an 8,000-hour training program with progression based on performance and training completion. Advanced standing may be granted for directly related experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Water Distribution Subsystem Class 1 Certificate through MECP
  • A minimum of 4 (four) years of similar or related experience
  • A valid Class 'D' Ontario Driver's License with a 'Z' endorsement
  • Familiarity with Ontario Health and Safety Act and safe work practices
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to operate tools, equipment, and vehicles

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency operating heavy equipment, specifically backhoes or excavator
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, GIS, Laboratory Information Management Systems, water distribution sampling protocol and working with various mobile technologies

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and operating the water distribution system
  • Performing preventative maintenance and emergency repair activities on all appurtenances within the water distribution system
  • Planning, initiating and tearing down traffic plans and devices
  • Inspecting contractor work to ensure adherence to ENWIN standards
  • Troubleshooting and responding to customer complaints
  • Commissioning new infrastructure
  • Water sampling
  • Hot tapping the distribution system for the addition of new services and pressure stations
  • Finding leaks
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing water distribution network problems
  • Completing all required documentation
