The City of Aurora Wastewater Utility Worker performs manual labor and assists with routine maintenance and repair functions for the Wastewater division within the Aurora Water Department. The division performs preventive and emergency maintenance of wastewater mainlines, using Vac-Con combination sewer cleaners, closed-circuit television equipment, support trucks, and other equipment. Most work is performed above ground, so manhole entry is infrequent. After-hours emergencies are uncommon, though employees participate in an on-call standby program for two to three weeks per year. Average overtime is described as approximately 30 hours per year for the section and approximately 35 hours per year among the listed duties. The position supports maintenance and repair of water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure and equipment, operates vehicles and machinery, responds to emergencies, and may assist the Public Works Department with snow removal. Employees may be designated essential personnel during a City-declared emergency or disaster. Work takes place indoors and outdoors, in varied weather, and may involve traffic, roadways, easements, noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, or confined spaces. The City provides uniforms and most personal protective equipment to full-time employees; safety-toe boots are required.
