About The Position

This role involves operating and maintaining the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). The position is assigned to the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the pay is commensurate with the license level. The schedule includes night shifts with three days off each week. A typical shift involves monitoring and inspecting wastewater treatment equipment for safe and efficient plant operations, reviewing system outputs and gauges, collecting and recording operational data, performing wastewater sampling and testing, and responding to operational needs. The operator will collaborate with Maintenance staff for equipment troubleshooting and repair, and communicate operational updates to the next shift to ensure seamless operation of the 24/7 facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
  • No previous training or experience required for Level I.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in wastewater plant operations for Level II.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in wastewater treatment plant operations for Level III.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in wastewater plant operations for Level IV.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to learn the principles and practices necessary in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant including the operation and maintenance of plant machinery and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read meters and gauges correctly and to act quickly and competently.
  • Ability to recognize and react to treatment process changes and demands.
  • Ability to work according to safety standards under potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to follow all City safety rules and procedures and immediately report all accidents/incidents or unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
  • Skill in following written and verbal instructions.
  • Skill in oral and written communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Wyoming driver’s license preferred.
  • Ability to routinely demonstrate the City of Casper core values.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance on plant equipment and grounds including dusting, sweeping, mopping, changing oils, cleaning sludge drying beds, and repairing structures; adjusts and calibrates equipment as necessary.
  • Performs manual labor related to plant operations including draining and inspecting plant structures; cleaning tanks, screens, filters, pipes, and pumps; changing oils; and transferring sludge from digesters.
  • Performs basic laboratory sampling and testing as directed.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory levels and notifies the lead operator when levels are low.
  • Collects a variety of information including meter gauge readings, control panel readings, and data from computer systems.
  • Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
