About The Position

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is the head of a team that operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in a wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage. This role involves monitoring control panels and adjusting valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate the flow of sewage. The operator also guides and assists other Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators in their daily duties. This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified on water systems management, including backflow prevention, and trained and qualified to inspect and test backflow prevention devices.
Minimum of one (1) year leadership experience.
Minimum of three (3) years of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator experience.
Possess a valid driver’s license from country of origin.
Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Able and willing to perform other duties as needed, as skills and program allow.

Responsibilities

Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements.
Ensures employees start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of water or raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
Maintains log of operations and records meter and gas readings.
Performs routine operations and maintenance.
Collects wastewater, effluent, influent and sewage samples.
Conducts bacteriological sampling and analysis after repair to verify the water system has not been contaminated.
Adjusts controls to ensure operating efficiencies.
Assists in training Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators on operations, preventive maintenance, and repairs of the wastewater treatment systems/units.
Guides Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators through their daily duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
