About The Position

The City of Geneva is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Operator to join their dedicated team at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. This division is responsible for treating the community's wastewater, ensuring it adheres to state and federal standards before returning it to the Fox River. The operator will run, maintain, and repair wastewater equipment to ensure proper and efficient operation of the plant. This role is ideal for someone mechanically inclined, who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, and can use data to make adjustments and maximize efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with background in biology, math and science
  • Experience working with machinery, diagnostic testing, performing maintenance and general labor
  • Competence in Excel and similar databases to enter, sort and analyze basic data
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical equations, use logic and reasoning to identify abnormalities in processes
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) required within one year of employment
  • Wastewater Operator Certification - Class 4 (required with the completion of on-the-job certification hours)

Nice To Haves

  • Tanker endorsement for CDL is preferred.
  • Previous wastewater experience is preferred, but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Operate plant equipment including pumps, clarifiers, digesters, centrifuges, dump trucks, and various mechanical equipment.
  • Perform regular maintenance as well as troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Collect and enter data through Excel or similar software pertaining to measurements on various processes and outputs.
  • Analyze results to make adjustments to processes as necessary.
  • Collect pre- and post-treatment water samples, including sludge, raw influent and final effluent.
  • Monitor system and equipment alarms and determine corrective action/repair as necessary.
  • Inspect lift stations, record data, check equipment levels, etc.
  • Perform laboratory tests such as pH and DO (dissolved oxygen), etc.
  • Take note of abnormalities and consult with supervisor on next steps.
  • Assist with general facility and grounds maintenance, cleaning, updates, etc.
  • Perform snow removal and salting at the plant and other City locations as necessary.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
