About The Position

The Town of Milford is seeking a skilled and motivated Wastewater Treatment Operator to join our Water Utilities Department. This role performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town’s wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in wastewater treatment plant or collection system operations (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • NH Grade II Wastewater Treatment Certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles, and equipment
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting, carrying, climbing, and working in confined spaces
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call shifts
  • Working knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment
  • Ability to understand basic physical, chemical, and biological wastewater treatment principles
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate data recording and reporting skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater treatment plant processes, pump stations, and collection systems
  • Start up and shut down wastewater treatment equipment as required
  • Monitor equipment, gauges, charts, and SCADA systems; record and maintain accurate operational logs
  • Collect samples and perform laboratory analyses in accordance with established procedures
  • Operate biosolids dewatering equipment, including centrifuges and belt filter presses
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems
  • Calibrate and repair monitoring and control equipment such as flow meters and recorders
  • Identify, report, and respond to safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, and emergency situations
  • Maintain facility drawings and schematics
  • Perform general facility, grounds, and custodial maintenance
  • Assist with training lesser-skilled operators
  • Participate in committees and perform other duties as assigned
