Wastewater System Operator 1/2/3/4
About The Position
Performs skilled duties related to constructing, installing, maintaining, and repairing city wastewater collection system main lines. The position may also operate machinery to clean water systems. The level of appointment (Operator 1, 2, 3, or 4) depends on experience and State Wastewater Collection Certification. Operator 1 requires 0–1 years of relevant experience and Wastewater Collection Grade 1 certification within 12 months; Operator 2 requires 1 year of experience and Grade 2 certification; Operator 3 requires 2 years of experience and Grade 3 certification; Operator 4 requires 4 years of experience and Grade 4 certification. The stated pay range is $21.35–$37.21 per hour, depending on qualifications, with starting pay not typically above the midpoint. The schedule is 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with possible on-call rotations and weekend work. The position is in the Water Department.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school.
- Must have a Utah CDL or obtain one within 6 months.
- Must obtain State Wastewater Collection Certification Grade 1 within 12 months.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Skill in operating various types of tools and power equipment to perform essential functions.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with the supervisor, subordinates, and the public.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
- For Operator 1: 0–1 years of relevant experience and Wastewater Collection Grade 1 certification within 12 months.
- For Operator 2: 1 year of relevant experience and Wastewater Collection Grade 2 certification.
- For Operator 3: 2 years of relevant experience and Wastewater Collection Grade 3 certification.
- For Operator 4: 4 years of relevant experience and Wastewater Collection Grade 4 certification.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience with underground water systems, equipment placement, residential service locations, easements, and right-of-way specifications.
