About The Position

Under limited supervision, assists the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator in overseeing the effective and efficient operations of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring that all State and Federal regulations are met. Performs a variety of supervisory duties and evaluates and maintains required files and records and prepares various reports as required.

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience in actual plant operations required.
  • Florida License Required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Wastewater plant operator class A, B, or C license.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Chief Plant Operator in overseeing the Wastewater Plant operations.
  • Ensures that all directives of the Superintendent are carried out effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensures that established operations protocol is adhered to by all plant personnel.
  • Performs duties of the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator in their absence.
  • Performs a variety of supervisory duties with the guidance of the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator including coordinating activities, instructing, scheduling, assigning, reviewing, planning work of others, maintaining standards, overseeing trouble-shooting and maintenance procedures, ensuring proper safety practices and precautions, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, recommending transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions, discharges and salary increases
  • Performs a variety of clerical/bookkeeping duties such as processing plant data through computer, evaluating and maintaining files on all personnel actions pertaining to the Treatment Plant and preparing required State and Federal reports, correspondence, etc.
  • Records and reports prepared and/or processed include NPDES and FDEP regulatory reports; various charts, logs and maintenance sheets, various personnel records, budget report, receiving reports, lab reports, sludge reports, biomonitoring report and industrial report.
  • Coordinates outside contracts and services pertinent to plant operations.
  • Utilizes various types of machinery and equipment including computer, motors, pumps, blowers, sludge dewatering, testing equipment, lag supplies and general office supplies, computers and handheld devices, and other wastewater treatment systems.
  • Works for growth and advancement within the profession through assisting with an active apprenticeship program, mentoring less experienced staff, encouraging participation in professional associations and training/licensing programs.
  • Required to emulate a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork.
  • Input data into computer programs, answer telephone, balance figures, compile statistics, maintain filing systems, maintain logs, proofread documents and research general information.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
