About The Position

The Wastewater Maintenance Technician I / II will handle skilled maintenance and repair of wastewater equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, electrical control panels, and chemical feed equipment. The role involves collaboration with others in tasks like installation, modification, preventive maintenance, and repair of wastewater facilities. This is a safety-sensitive and/or DOT position. Therefore, participation in random drug testing at the city will be mandatory.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Class "D" Wastewater Operator License or Class I Wastewater Collections within 18 months of employment (for Technician I).
  • Minimum one year of experience in industrial/commercial mechanical and electrical maintenance (for Technician I).
  • Class "C" Wastewater Operator License or Class II Wastewater Collections (for Technician II).
  • Must be able to obtain Class “D” Water license within 18 months of employment (for Technician II).
  • Minimum two years of experience in industrial/commercial mechanical and electrical maintenance (for Technician II).
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that offer the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted or assessed at the City's discretion.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation.
  • Knowledge of mechanics, electronics, motors, generators, and pump operations.
  • Knowledge of water facilities and preventive maintenance standards.
  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association 70 - Electrical.
  • Knowledge of meter testing and calibration techniques.
  • Knowledge of bending conduit, hand tools, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic welding.
  • Skill in interpersonal skills for effective relationship development.
  • Skill in adaptability to perform a variety of tasks of different nature.
  • Skill in maintenance for pumps, motors, electrical panels, generators, and automatic valves.
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and plumbing problems to determine issues and solutions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Repair electrical systems, pumps, motors, valves, and piping.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, and electrical components.
  • Install PVC service lines, replace motor lubrication lines, and work on chlorine system lines.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain electrical controls; replace fuses, switches, and receptacles.
  • Assist in installing, testing, and calibrating meters.
  • Schedule projects, log work orders, and procure parts and equipment.
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
  • Capable of working under limited or moderate supervision while performing complex tasks.
  • Must pass all proficiency requirements.
  • Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
