About The Position

This role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection utility systems, including lines and lift stations. Responsibilities include inspecting and cleaning lift stations, repairing sewer lines using jetting and camera equipment, managing sewer overflows, installing service line taps, and assisting with repairs to water and gas mains. The position also requires operating and maintaining vehicles and equipment, performing general maintenance, adhering to safety procedures, and completing various documentation.

Requirements

  • Must be able to operate a variety of equipment and tools associated with work activities, which may include a utility truck, dump truck, backhoe, tractor, VAC truck, television camera inspection unit, bypass pump, lift station pump, generator, air compressor, jackhammer, meters, gauges, mechanic tools, carpentry tools, power tools, hand tools, digging tools, measuring devices, or radio communications equipment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively, work under pressure and to prioritize.
  • Must be able to proficiently read, write and communicate clearly in English.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive and professional attitude and an effective working relationship with, and among coworkers.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the Baldwin County area regularly and out of town occasionally.
  • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Must possess effective communication skills with ability to handle difficult people or situations.
  • Must be able to stand and walk around regularly, both inside and outside, sometimes in inclement weather and on uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, twist, reach overhead and lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Class B CDL license required
  • Must attain an ADEM Grade 1C Wastewater Operators license within 12 months.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Must pass a Drug Screen and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs wastewater collection utility systems, utility lines, and lift stations.
  • Inspects and repairs lift stations and pumps; cleans and degreases lift stations; dispenses deodorizers at lift stations.
  • Repairs, cleans, and jets sewer lines; operates TV camera to view sewer lines and locate lateral lines.
  • Locates, contains, and cleans up sewer overflows.
  • Installs sewer service line taps; locates manholes and sewer lines; raises manhole covers.
  • Assists in repairing water mains, gas mains, and pipe leaks.
  • Maintains drying bed and pumps; sets up bypass pumps.
  • Reads and records pump running times; retrieves pump run time information from computer.
  • Cuts, breaks up, and removes asphalt/concrete; paints lift stations; builds and maintains fencing around lift stations.
  • Mows and maintains right-of-way areas; lifts/moves equipment and heavy materials.
  • Transports, hauls, loads, and unloads various equipment and materials.
  • Performs general/preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Follows established safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment for safety.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, and other documents.
