About The Position

Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Water / Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to support a government contract based in Kings Bay, Georgia. This role involves operating and controlling machinery to purify water for consumption and industrial use, as well as managing wastewater treatment processes. The operator will monitor control panels, adjust valves and gates, operate pumps and motors, and perform regular maintenance and repairs on equipment. Additionally, the role requires testing water and wastewater samples, recording operational data, and potentially training other staff. The position also includes responsibilities related to safety, quality, and procedure compliance as per Amentum's policies.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Must possess Wastewater Operator license.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain Class II Water Operator license within 4 months of selected candidate's date of hire and throughout employment in this role.
  • Must provide verifiable evidence of a minimum of 12 months experience in the maintenance mechanic field.
  • Must possess the tools of their trade.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must have and wear hard-toed safety shoes which meet ASTM F2413-05 standards.
  • Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance.
  • US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate the flow of raw water into the treatment plant.
  • Dumps specified amounts of chemicals, such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water or adjusts automatic devices to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
  • Starts agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle.
  • Turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities.
  • Pumps purified water into water mains.
  • Monitors panelboards and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure, and water elevation and distribution.
  • Cleans tanks and filter beds using backwashing.
  • Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment using hand- and power tools.
  • Tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities using various meters.
  • Records data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure.
  • Operates potable water-purification plant to supply drinking water.
  • Purifies wastewater from the plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers, streams, or city mains.
  • Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater treatment plants.
  • Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate the flow of sewage.
  • Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and test results.
  • Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control the flow of raw sewage through filtering, setline, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
  • Maintains a log of operations and records meter and gas readings.
  • Gives directions to wastewater treatment plant attendants and sewage disposal workers.
  • Collects sewage samples and conducts laboratory tests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Continuously develops and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Completes all training requirements and fulfills self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities.
  • Participates in emergency response tasks and serves on safety committees and teams.
  • Consistently provides services that meet customer expectations.
  • Carries out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Reads and understands Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.
  • Reads, understands, and implements general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to the job.
