Participates in a co-op program for a temporary duration, assisting and contributing to an assigned team. Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from colleagues in planning and carrying out activities and assignments. The role involves participating in the design and development of research studies to explore the potential of new materials, technologies, and/or products. The co-op will become familiar with orthopaedic industry specific R&D testing and materials, as well as standard materials manufacturing processes including investment casting, forging, powder metallurgy, and heat treating. They will work with cross-functional teams and alongside experienced scientists and engineers, observe world-class operations in a J&J MedTech manufacturing facility, and take advantage of on-site training courses. Responsibilities include characterization of materials and evaluation of processes for newly designed and/or current products; performing wear, functional mechanical, and/or impaction studies; providing technical assistance as needed; developing new test methods and/or equipment; and performing failure analyses. The role also involves oral presentations to staff and preparation and review of technical reports, utilizing sound analytical techniques, and maintaining good laboratory procedures.
