About The Position

Emera Energy is currently seeking a Co-op, Developer student for the Fall 2026 term (September 7 to December 18). This 16-week opportunity offers hands-on experience in cloud development using Microsoft Azure within a professional enterprise environment. During your work term, you will gain practical experience designing, building, and supporting cloud-based applications while collaborating with experienced developers and operations professionals. This role is ideal for students eager to develop modern cloud, automation, and DevOps skills.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Cloud Computing, or a related field
  • A basic understanding of programming or scripting languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell
  • Familiarity with SQL and database concepts
  • Understanding of cloud computing fundamentals (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) certification, or currently working towards it
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure (through academics, lab, or personal projects) and familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and REST APIs
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts (e.g., VNets, firewalls, DNS)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of cloud-based applications in Microsoft Azure
  • Develop and deploy solutions using Azure-native services such as Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, and Azure SQL
  • Support infrastructure and application deployments in a cloud environment
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
  • Write and maintain scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Python
  • Assist with monitoring and troubleshooting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
  • Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and team meetings
  • Document technical solutions, configurations, and operational procedures
  • Follow secure development practices and cloud governance standards
