About The Position

Emera Energy is currently seeking a Co-op, Developer student for the Fall 2026 term (September 7 to December 18). This 16-week opportunity offers hands-on experience in cloud development using Microsoft Azure within a professional enterprise environment. During your work term, you will gain practical experience designing, building, and supporting cloud-based applications while collaborating with experienced developers and operations professionals. This role is ideal for students eager to develop modern cloud, automation, and DevOps skills.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Cloud Computing, or a related field
A basic understanding of programming or scripting languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell
Familiarity with SQL and database concepts
Understanding of cloud computing fundamentals (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
Knowledge of version control systems such as Git
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Nice To Haves

Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) certification, or currently working towards it
Exposure to Microsoft Azure (through academics, lab, or personal projects) and familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and REST APIs
Understanding of basic networking concepts (e.g., VNets, firewalls, DNS)

Responsibilities

Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of cloud-based applications in Microsoft Azure
Develop and deploy solutions using Azure-native services such as Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Storage, and Azure SQL
Support infrastructure and application deployments in a cloud environment
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
Write and maintain scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Python
Assist with monitoring and troubleshooting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and team meetings
Document technical solutions, configurations, and operational procedures
Follow secure development practices and cloud governance standards
