About The Position

Travis Association for the Blind/Austin Lighthouse (TAB) is a non-profit organization founded in 1934 with the mission to provide opportunities for economic and personal independence for people who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf blind by creating, sustaining, and improving employment. Requirements

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control and techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Ability to operate and read a RF gun and computer.
  • Electric and non-electric pallet jack skills.
  • Possesses basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • The ability to navigate safely in small or large areas/environment.
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to read, comprehend and understand information and ideas presented in writing or in alternative form.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Demonstrates sound work ethics.
  • Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift Certification or the ability to attain certification through the company's training if needed.
  • Strong dexterity capabilities to grasp, assemble, and manipulate objects.
  • Ability to stand for 7-8 hours a day.
  • Ability to lift 10-45lbs items/products repeatedly.
  • Ability to endure extreme temperatures in a warehouse setting.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, adjust position for 80% of time.
  • Background Check and Drug Screen required.
  • Verifiable documentation of ability to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of warehousing duties which require an understanding of TAB's storage plan.
  • Verifies materials and/or merchandise against receiving documents, noting, and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages.
  • Counts incoming stock for verification and after classification of the product.
  • Folds and/or packages product according to specifications.
  • May operate hand or power trucks in performing warehousing duties.
  • Verifies correctness by comparing items and quantities against placard and SCALE; checking for damaged goods; insuring that goods are appropriately identified for routing to warehouse locations; preparing and keeping records of goods received.
  • Counts quantities of materials, parts, or products received.
  • Confirms stock in the correct location with the proper condition code, and with the correct quantity.
  • Performs cycle counts weekly, monthly, and quarterly.
  • Counts all inventory to know the exact quantity in the entire warehouse (usually performed annually).
  • Notes and reports discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Ensures production orders are pulled correctly, properly documented, and placed in the designated location for pick up.
  • Inspects product load for accuracy and safely moves it around the warehouse.
  • Maintains and operates all TAB equipment and property in accordance with accepted TAB practices.
  • Transfers product from different locations in the warehouse.
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Mechanically loads or unloads materials using an electric pallet jack.
  • May operate hand or power trucks.
  • Preserves a safe and clean work environment.
  • Complies with and assists other employees in understanding and complying with TAB's Safety and Security policies and guidelines.
