About The Position

This role provides direction to co-workers to ensure that all shipping documents and functions are completed accurately and in a timely manner. The lead ensures that the least cost carrier is selected and used as the appropriate transporter, and maximizes parcel weight by combining product to be shipped to the same customer. The position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with two years of related experience being highly preferred. The role also demands computer literacy, spreadsheet experience, and the ability to work accurately with numbers. The lead is expected to demonstrate role model work habits, foster teamwork, enhance team morale, conduct on-the-job training, and provide constructive feedback. They must also continually seek opportunities to improve department operations and encourage team members to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Additionally, the lead must achieve and maintain certifications required to operate equipment, perform safety checks, and report machine problems. They should be willing to be cross-trained as a lead in other departments. Employees are expected to participate in safety and health program activities, including reporting hazards and incidents, wearing required personal protective equipment, and supporting safety committee activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience is highly preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and work a flexible schedule if required.
  • High energy, personal drive, and self-motivation to accomplish business goals.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Detail-oriented, strong multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate / spreadsheet experience to enter inventory, deliveries and scheduling in order to track, analyze and manage operations effectively.
  • Motivated to train, learn, and lead by example.
  • Able to work from verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to work accurately with numbers and use a calculator.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction to co-workers to ensure that all shipping documents and functions are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensures that the least cost carrier is selected and used as the appropriate transporter.
  • Maximizes parcel weight through combining product to be shipped to the same customer.
  • Sorts packages and uses a hand scanner to determine shipment status.
  • Checks boxes to ensure they are sealed, properly labeled and free from any damage; makes sure all quality standards are met.
  • Demonstrates “role model” work habits and fosters teamwork within the department.
  • Enhances team morale – discusses issues and suggestions with Area Manager and follows up with team members.
  • Conducts on-the-job training and provides constructive feedback to employees.
  • Continually seeks opportunities to improve department operations.
  • Encourages team members to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Achieves and maintains certifications required to operate equipment necessary within assigned department.
  • Performs safety checks prior to use.
  • Reports machine problems to Area Manager.
  • Charges industrial truck batteries as needed.
  • Is willing to be cross trained as a lead in other departments.
