About The Position

We’re hiring WAQTC Lab / Field Technicians to support Idaho Department of Transportation (ITD) projects in Idaho Falls and Pocatello. In this role, you’ll perform construction materials testing and inspection that directly impacts the safety and longevity of public infrastructure. This is hands-on, field-based work where accuracy, teamwork, and attention to detail matter. Requirements

  • ACI Field Grade Level 1 certification, or the ability and commitment to obtain it.
  • At least one current certification (WAQTC, Aggregate, Asphalt, In-Place, or Embankment), with willingness to pursue additional certifications such as ACI, ICC, or WAQTC within 60 days of hire.
  • Two or more years of hands-on experience in one or more phases of construction and a general understanding of construction practices.
  • The ability to read, understand, and consistently follow procedures, standards, and safety requirements.
  • A strong safety mindset, including the ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing and maintain OSHA 10 certification.
  • The physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • A valid driver’s license, clean driving record, proof of insurance, and flexibility to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, or travel out of town as needed.
  • A professional work ethic, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and grow in the field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with the public, contractors, supervisors, and team members.
  • Basic math, writing, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), with the discipline to complete accurate field reports, track time and expenses daily, and respond promptly to calls and emails.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building and materials inspections in accordance with ICC standards and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, and on-site work (reinforced concrete, masonry, fireproofing) to verify code and safety compliance.
  • Document inspection results accurately, prepare detailed reports, and issue correction notices with clear guidance for contractors and project teams.
  • Communicate professionally with builders, engineers, municipal authorities, and internal stakeholders to resolve compliance and quality issues.
  • Maintain required certifications, training records, safety documentation, timecards, and expense reports in compliance with company standards.
  • Support quality assurance efforts, laboratory testing as needed, and field assignments across Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and surrounding areas while upholding Atlas standards.
