About The Position

The incumbent in this position assists in archeological field projects, laboratory work, and research projects under the direction of the Archaeological Manager and Archaeological Laboratory & Collections Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with southern New England Native American history and artifacts
  • Demonstrated Organizational and record keeping skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or a related field, or current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program in Anthropology or a related field; OR High school diploma or GED combined with six (6) months cumulative experience in field archaeology in southern New England and three (3) months cumulative experience in an archaeological laboratory working on archaeology of southern New England
  • Position requires extended periods of strenuous physical activity, including site clearing, shovel excavation, screening and back filling, as well as carrying equipment over distances in wooded and brush-filled areas
  • Ability to perform Essential Duties with demands that include: Lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds, pushing/pulling, kneeling, climbing, crouching, and reaching
  • Ability to work in adverse outdoor conditions such as extreme heat and wetness
  • Successful candidate must pass the background check in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (ICPA)
