About The Position

The Waiter/Waitress takes food and beverage orders and efficiently delivers items to dining room guests at The Franklin Institute. The role involves providing prompt, professional service, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, and helping ensure the dining area is clean and properly set up. The position also requires coordination with kitchen and other department staff, careful cash handling, and responsive communication with guests and supervisors.

Responsibilities

Promptly and warmly greet dining room guests and take food and beverage orders according to established service steps.
Deliver food promptly and professionally while following safe food-handling and sanitation standards; check back with guests to address additional needs or requests.
Understand menu items and ingredients, advise guests on food and drink combinations when requested, accommodate reasonable requests, note preferences, and demonstrate knowledge of specialized diets and allergens as needed.
Communicate with back-of-house staff to ensure orders are delivered correctly and special requests are accommodated.
Communicate effectively and work well with others, remaining flexible and patient with guests and staff.
Collect tickets and follow proper cash-handling procedures.
Promote a clean, safe, and neat environment for guests.
Maintain sensitivity and confidentiality regarding personal or medical information shared by guests.
Address complaints or issues promptly and relay relevant information or complaints to a supervisor.
Set up the dining room before and after service, and keep the area clean and neat while meeting sanitation standards.
Operate equipment including fire extinguishers, telephones, iced tea and soda machines, soup wells, and coffee machines.
Work with staff from other departments during special events and functions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
