About The Position

The Thomas Club at the Chicago Symphony Center is seeking a Waiter/Waitress. This role involves greeting guests, taking food and beverage orders, and delivering items efficiently and professionally. The position requires a thorough understanding of menu items, ingredients, and potential allergens, as well as the ability to advise guests on food and drink combinations. Communication with back-of-the-house staff is crucial for ensuring accurate order fulfillment and accommodating special requests. The role also involves cash handling, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and operating various equipment. Collaboration with other departments for special events is expected. Requirements

Demonstrates complete understanding of menu items and ingredients.
Advises guests on appropriate combinations of food and drinks when requested.

Remains flexible and patient when communicating with guests and staff.

Responsibilities

Greet guests warmly and take food and beverage orders efficiently, following established steps of service.
Deliver food promptly and professionally, maintaining safe food handling and sanitation standards.
Follow up with guests to assist with any additional needs or requests.
Demonstrate complete understanding of menu items and ingredients, advising guests on combinations and accommodating reasonable requests.
Communicate directly with back-of-the-house staff to ensure orders are delivered correctly and special requests are accommodated.
Collect tickets and follow proper cash-handling procedures.
Promote a clean, safe, and neat environment for guests.
Address complaints or issues promptly and relay relevant information to a supervisor.
Ensure the dining room is properly set up before and after service periods, keeping the area clean and neat.
Operate various equipment, including fire extinguishers, telephones, iced tea/soda machines, soup wells, and coffee machines.
Work with staff of other departments to perform job duties during special events and functions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
