About The Position

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 12. Wage and Hour Technicians ensure that the prevailing wage requirements are adhered to on public construction projects. They conduct audits of certified payrolls, perform on-site inspections of construction projects, review and approve Notices of Award and Notices of Completion, and provide technical assistance for users of the Department’s LSS Online Filing Services. Wage and Hour Technicians also provide assistance with the office’s child labor, general industry, and customer service offerings. The mission of Labor Standards and Safety (LSS) is to ensure safe and legal working conditions. Wage and Hour Technicians carry out this mission by ensuring employees are paid the prevailing wage on public construction projects. Wage and Hour Technicians also work to educate employers on their responsibilities, conduct on-site inspections of public construction, and provide technical assistance to public users of the LSS Online Filing Services.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or a GED certificate AND Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience is met by service as an Administrative Clerk 3, Human Resource Assistant, or Accounting Clerk 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.
  • Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
