About The Position

Responsible for developing WAFs utilizing the Electronic Work Authorization Form System (eWAFS); for work control and controlling tag-out of equipment and to work with ship’s force to install and remove tags. Responsibilities also include daily coordination and reporting of WAFs and Tag-Outs and other logistics support for the project as assigned. Coordinates and directs the work of trades and subcontractors to perform work within their areas of responsibility to meet project goals. Support production and other processes in a team-based manufacturing environment or repair environment. Reports to the Ship Manager. Liaison closely with Quality Assurance, Planning, Subcontractors, Materials, Safety, Customers, Vendors and other NASSCO Departments as appropriate. Develop inter-personal communications with Trade Supervision.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent with good knowledge of trade responsibilities, ship systems, and shipbuilding practices.
  • Two (2) years experience in a shipbuilding, repair or equivalent manufacturing environment is desired
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Effective reports are a key deliverable of this individual’s activities
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred
  • Successfully demonstrated knowledge of NASSCO’s policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and manage time effectively, including managing and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated understanding of ships and ship systems
  • Ability to read Technical Drawings and use of the Navy Engineering Operational Sequencing System (EOSS)
  • Ability to work well with all levels of personnel – internally, externally and ships force
  • Strong communication skills to work with multiple organizations onboard ship, on the base or in the shipyard
  • Understand conditions required to commence work
  • Strong demonstrated skills in computer applications including ESOMS, eWAFs and MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) are required
  • Strong knowledge of the Tag-Out requirements onboard ship for electrical and mechanical isolation using Tag-Out User’s Manual
  • Ability to coordinate ship schedule and equipment/system tag-out impact.
  • Must be able to pass security background check and obtain a naval base access badge.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure WAF/T-O employees have minimum certification prior to being dispatched to perform work
  • Verify Tag Outs are in accordance with applicable documents, Technical Drawings and EOSS
  • Complete and submit Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) for each repair task
  • Understands and manages ship wide safety and housekeeping and ensures goals are being meet.
  • Participates in the logistic planning and execution for the assigned area.
  • Participates in quality and process improvement techniques; identify problem areas and initiate corrective action.
  • Coordinates material and equipment protection in the assigned area.
  • Monitors trade activities and provides input to the Ship Manager, General Supervisor and Superintendent to initiate appropriate action.
  • Coordinates resolution of conflicting trade/subcontractor priorities.
  • Understands and administers NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
