About The Position

The Bay Area News Group currently has an opening for a VP of Sales and Marketing. Working alongside senior leadership, you will have the opportunity to influence company strategy and will play a pivotal role in connecting businesses with their target demographics (our paying subscribers). Working with a talented team of sales and marketing professionals, you will be responsible for identifying and developing new opportunities and tactics to drive revenue growth. Your leadership in training and development will focus on enabling your team to reach their individual career goals and fullest potential. Our ideal candidate will partner closely with marketing, product, and editorial to develop scalable go-to-market strategies, strengthen client relationships, expand strategic partnerships, and position Bay Area News Group in the marketplace. This position is in-person in the Bay Area market.

Requirements

Minimum of 15 years of sales experience, including leadership experience, within media or publishing organizations, with a track record of being able to hit and exceed sales goals
Demonstrable success with strong, established executive-level relationships
Proven track record of growing revenue through new-product development, marketing, branding, and developing new partnerships, specifically working to solve client challenges with custom solutions
Fluency with sales analytics and CRM best practices to effectively track, manage, and optimize client relationships
Familiarity with selling both print and digital media products, including display, newsletters, audience extension, and branded content
Proven ability to meet or exceed goals through persistence, organization, and follow-up
Strong communication and presentation skills; confidence when speaking with clients, prospects, and internal stakeholders
Exceptional organizational skills and detail orientation, with a proven ability to prioritize, multitask, and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
High energy, enthusiasm, and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, in-person training sessions and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed

Responsibilities

Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual individual revenue goals by partnering with the sales team to grow the existing base of business and proactively prospect new business
Develop a deep understanding of clients' businesses, priorities, and challenges, and utilize that knowledge to create partnerships that drive value for clients
Expertly articulate and position our brand, audience, and product portfolio—including digital display, branded content, and programmatic solutions—to prospective partners
Maintain a rigorous sales pipeline while delivering accurate, data-driven insights to senior leadership
Champion a culture of data-informed decision-making by leveraging analytics to prioritize sales efforts and improve market penetration
Incorporate AI into research workflows for identifying relevant sales opportunities and contacts
Work with marketing and sales strategy to create effective and compelling sales materials, proposals, and RFP responses
Monitor the revenue pipeline and leads, adjusting as necessary for sustainable growth
Collaborate with Finance and Marketing teams on messaging, pricing strategies, and business models for achieving revenue goals
Drive between Bay Area offices across the market and represent the company at community events
