About The Position

Help Scout is seeking a VP of People to lead its people function at a pivotal moment in the company's growth. The company is transitioning to an AI-driven organization with a new strategic narrative and redefined go-to-market motion. The VP of People will be responsible for shaping how Help Scout grows and differentiates itself as an employer of choice, bringing company values to life throughout the employee lifecycle. This is a hands-on leadership role in a remote-first company, offering high accountability, meaningful autonomy, and the opportunity to build and refine people strategies that drive growth. The role involves leading a team that manages all aspects of the employee lifecycle, ensuring a robust and scalable remote-first culture, defining and measuring people program health using data, building and executing a talent strategy, and integrating an AI lens into the People team's operations and the broader organization. The VP of People will align people programs with business needs and establish clear planning and execution rhythms for their teams.

Requirements

  • Served as a people leader at a scaling B2B SaaS company in the $30M–$150M ARR range.
  • Led organizations through a growth stage and understand how to drive change in how work gets done.
  • Hands-on experience as an HRBP, with a deep understanding of partnering with the business.
  • A genuine point of view on how AI can advance organizations’ people practices, not just as tools but as a shift in operations.
  • Creative thinking about people and people strategies, leveraging innovative approaches in leadership.
  • Ability to hold a high bar, elevate those around you, and communicate clearly and empathetically in a remote setting.
  • A 'ship, measure, adjust' mindset, comfortable with the tension between performance goals and long-term vision.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team that owns all aspects of the employee lifecycle, from recruiting and onboarding to people and organizational development.
  • Oversee all people programs including global compensation, organizational design, performance management, and employee retention and engagement.
  • Ensure a robust and scalable culture in a remote-first environment, owning systems that support remote work and collaboration.
  • Define, measure, and maintain the health of people and People programs, sharing progress regularly at the leadership level and across the business.
  • Use data to guide decisions, challenge assumptions, and adjust strategy.
  • Build and execute the talent strategy, ensuring all people programs and practices are aligned and effective, including a robust recruiting strategy.
  • Partner with hiring managers to support them through the hiring process.
  • Bring an AI lens to the People team's operations and help team members leverage AI to work more effectively.
  • Drive Help Scout's new strategic narrative forward through people programs, aligning them with business needs.
  • Establish clear planning, prioritization, and execution rhythms for teams to operate at their best.
