ArloNew York, NY

About The Position

Arlo is rebuilding health insurance for small businesses by focusing on ensuring that a maximum amount of every premium dollar goes directly to care, rather than being absorbed by administrative overhead. The company utilizes AI across various functions, including underwriting, operations, clinical programs, and member experience, to create a more efficient insurance model. Arlo is already operating at a significant scale, is profitable, handles hundreds of millions in premiums, covers tens of thousands of members, and is experiencing rapid growth through brokers, employers, and partners. The team comprises individuals from Palantir, YC companies, and experienced healthcare operators, with backing from investors like Upfront Ventures, 8VC, and General Catalyst. As the VP of Clinical Strategy & Population Health, the individual will be responsible for establishing the clinical framework for Arlo's health plans, aiming to make healthcare more affordable, accessible, and of higher quality for members nationwide. This role involves collaboration with product, actuarial, and operations teams to define population health strategies, forge provider partnerships, and develop models that improve health outcomes while reducing costs.

Requirements

  • Clinical degree (e.g., MD, DO, RN, NP, MPH) and experience working directly with patients or health systems.
  • Experience developing or leading population health programs or value-based care models in a health plan, provider group, or ACO.
  • Understanding of how health plan structures impact member behavior and provider incentives, with ideas for improvement.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate clinical insights into business recommendations and vice versa.
  • A bias for impact, comfort working in ambiguous environments, and excitement for shaping a health plan from the ground up.
  • Experience working with claims data and deriving data-driven strategies and action plans.
  • Experience working in or closely with early-stage companies, or a strong desire to do so.

Responsibilities

  • Shape plan structures that drive preventive care, reduce wasteful spend, and promote high-value care, using data and clinical insight to design benefit structures that improve member health.
  • Identify key needs across Arlo’s member populations and develop scalable, data-driven programs to improve outcomes and reduce the total cost of care.
  • Guide how Arlo’s concierge and care support services proactively engage members, particularly those with complex or rising risk conditions.
  • Utilize Arlo's claims history to identify areas where members require the most support (e.g., diabetes, MSK, oncology) and design targeted clinical programs, deciding whether to build in-house or partner with specialized vendors.
  • Explore models for Arlo to take a more direct role in members' primary care experience to enhance patient-provider relationships and improve quality, continuity, and cost of care.
  • Build relationships with value-based providers, specialist networks, and health systems, and craft incentive structures that align economic outcomes with quality improvement.
  • Act as the clinical expert in product, claims, and underwriting discussions, ensuring decisions are supported by sound medical reasoning and real-world impact.

Benefits

  • High ownership with real responsibility from day one.
  • Opportunity to work on an important mission that directly influences how people access care and improves lives at scale.
  • Scope for growth and expansion as the company grows, leading to new challenges, bigger opportunities, and rapid career velocity.
  • Opportunity to apply AI to fundamentally reimagine healthcare.
  • A high-pace, high-collaboration environment with velocity, first-principles thinking, and ambitious teamwork.
