VP of Clinical Solutions

UnlearnSan Francisco, CA
$260,000 - $310,000

About The Position

Leading Pharma and Biotech companies trust Unlearn to deliver scientifically rigorous work using digital twins on studies where the stakes are high and the timelines are real. A digital twin of a patient is a comprehensive prediction of expected outcomes under a defined standard of care, made by a machine learning model built using our proprietary technology. That work is done by our scientific delivery teams, with expertise spanning biostatistics, data science, clinical science, and machine learning. As the VP of Clinical Solutions, you will lead an organization of scientists and technical leaders across a wide array of active customer projects with different timelines, needs, and opportunities. This role sits at the intersection of scientific leadership and operational excellence. On one side, you will develop technical teams through hands-on people leadership, technical governance, and deep domain judgment about what rigorous clinical and scientific delivery work looks like. On the other, you will keep delivery on track across a growing portfolio, resourcing projects effectively as we scale, and partnering across functions to solve problems before they reach customers. You will report to the COO and be responsible for meeting business goals in Delivery that ensures that Unlearn increases its leadership and reputation as a best-in-class innovator and scientific partner.

Requirements

  • 10+ years leading scientific or analytical delivery work in clinical development, with significant experience operating at the Senior Director or VP level with responsibility for multi-disciplinary technical teams.
  • A track record of leading data analytics, biostatistics, data science, or related delivery organizations serving biopharma customers—for example at real-world data (RWD) companies, CROs, or analytics-driven clinical development partners. Direct ML delivery experience is a plus, but deep respect for and fluency with quantitative methods is essential.
  • Demonstrated scientific leadership: you have grown individual contributors into technical leaders, and you can provide credible technical guidance and governance across biostatistics, data science, and ML without needing to be the deepest expert in each.
  • Strong operational skills: you have kept complex, concurrent customer delivery portfolios on track, resourced projects effectively under real constraints, and scaled delivery teams and processes as demand grew.
  • Domain knowledge of clinical development: study designs, clinical data, sponsor expectations, and the regulatory and evidentiary standards that govern our customers' decisions.
  • Experience reporting to executive leadership on delivery capacity, growth, and risk: you manage commitments realistically, say no when the math doesn't work, and surface problems early rather than letting them compound.
  • Comfort operating cross-functionally with Business Development, Product, Engineering, R&D, Quality Management, and customer stakeholders, and translating fluidly between technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in growth-stage or early-stage companies to build a stronger delivery model while running it.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct ML delivery experience is a plus, but deep respect for and fluency with quantitative methods is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Unlearn's scientific delivery organization and own the quality, timeliness, and scientific rigor of customer-facing delivery work across a portfolio of concurrent projects.
  • Partner closely with Business Development, Product, Engineering, R&D, and Quality Management to shape scopes of work, resolve cross-functional blockers, feed delivery learnings back into the product, and ensure what we sell is what we can deliver excellently.
  • Serve as a senior scientific voice with customers: stepping into escalations, building trust with sponsor teams, and representing the credibility of Unlearn's science in clinical development settings.
  • Develop technical team leaders through direct people leadership, mentorship, and career development.
  • Establish and uphold technical governance: standards, review practices, and quality frameworks that ensure our statistical analyses, data products, and ML applications meet the bar our customers and regulators expect.
  • Own delivery operations at scale: project staffing and resourcing, capacity planning, prioritization across competing customer demands, and delivery processes that keep a growing portfolio on track without burning out the team.
  • Report regularly to company leadership on delivery health, capacity, and portfolio risk; manage the growth of delivery commitments so that we scale ambitiously without over-committing resources, and escalate risks early and transparently.
  • Build the systems, metrics, and delivery models that maintain quality while we continue to grow.
